From Support to Success: Londen’s Story at Lima Central Catholic High School
Beth Lawson – Director of Media & Communication, School Choice Ohio
At School Choice Ohio, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to find the educational environment that helps them thrive. Through our 2026 Essay Scholarship Contest, students across the state shared powerful, personal reflections on what their education means to them.
Londen, a senior at Lima Central Catholic High School, was selected as one of three outstanding winners. Her story is a compelling example of how the right educational fit—supported by strong relationships, high expectations, and a culture of care—can shape not only academic success, but a student’s future path.
Londen’s Essay: What My Education Means to Me
The transition from high school to the world beyond is a journey often marked by uncertainty, but as a senior at Lima Central Catholic High School (LCC), I find myself standing on the threshold of graduation with a profound sense of purpose.
As I prepare to attend the University of Cincinnati to major in physical therapy, I realize that the question of how my education has prepared me for my next steps is not answered by a single exam or a specific grade. Instead, it is found in the holistic, rigorous, and deeply personal environment that defines the LCC experience.
A Culture That Refuses to Let Students Fail
“Graduation is the floor, not the ceiling.”
One of the most telling metrics of Lima Central Catholic’s success is its consistent 100% graduation rate. This is not a matter of chance—it is a testament to a culture of accountability and commitment.
This “no-fail” mentality isn’t about lowering standards. It’s about maintaining high expectations while ensuring every student has the support needed to meet them.
“With the right support and personal discipline, any goal is attainable.”
This belief has shaped my mindset and will guide me as I pursue the challenges ahead in my academic and professional journey.
Small Classrooms, Big Impact
“I have never felt like a face in a crowd.”
LCC’s commitment to small class sizes creates an environment where every student is known, understood, and supported. Teachers are able to recognize individual learning styles and provide personalized guidance.
Help is never out of reach—it’s a conversation, not a process.
“These smaller classes have forced me to develop my voice and take ownership of my education.”
These skills—communication, confidence, and engagement—will be essential as I pursue a career in physical therapy, where personal connection is critical.
Teachers Who Go Beyond the Classroom
“Our educators do not just want us to pass their exams; they want us to succeed in every aspect of life.”
At LCC, teachers invest in students far beyond academics. They show up—to games, performances, and moments when support matters most.
This level of care creates a safety net that allows students to take risks and grow.
“When you know your teacher is truly in your corner, the fear of failure diminishes.”
Their mentorship has helped shape not just my academic path, but my character and values.
Pushed to Reach Full Potential
“True confidence comes from overcoming difficult obstacles.”
LCC challenges its students intentionally. The rigor of the curriculum prepares us for what lies ahead, demanding critical thinking, discipline, and perseverance.
“This ‘push’ is a form of respect.”
By holding us to high standards, our teachers demonstrate their belief in our ability to achieve great things. That belief has helped me develop the resilience needed for future success.
Prepared for What Comes Next
As I look toward the University of Cincinnati, I feel fully prepared—academically, socially, and morally.
“I am not leaving LCC just with a diploma; I am leaving with the grit required to succeed.”
My education has equipped me with more than knowledge. It has given me the tools to think critically, connect with others, and lead with empathy.
A Foundation That Lasts a Lifetime
“I step out into the world knowing that I have a foundation that cannot be shaken.”
The true success of LCC is not just found in its graduation rate, but in the individual stories of students like me—students who are ready to contribute, lead, and make a difference.
“With enough care and the right push, every student can reach the finish line and pursue their dreams.”
I am forever grateful for the teachers and community that helped me see my potential—and pushed me to achieve it.
