How do we apply?

Check out the participating private schools – We highly recommend visiting the schools you are interested in before making a decision. Choose the school that is the best fit for your child.

Apply for admission at a private school – Apply to the participating school(s) of your choice. Your child will go through their regular admission process.

Have the private school submit a Scholarship application – Once your child is accepted by the school, the school can submit a scholarship application on your child’s behalf.

  • Remember, your child must be accepted at a private school and you must return the scholarship request form to that school before the deadline so that the school can apply on their behalf.

When do we apply?

The Cleveland Scholarship has one application period – February 1 through April 30. If funding is still available after scholarships have been awarded, a second application period may open until all funds have been awarded (See the Department of Education website to confirm deadlines).

Important: There is no guaranteed second application period if the total funding available is used up during the first application period. We recommend that families apply during the first application period to avoid missing out on this opportunity.

How many scholarships are available?

The number of available scholarships is limited based on the amount of funding allotted to the program. Priority is given to low-income families whose income has been verified.

Will I have to pay for any costs?

Cleveland Scholarship funds are used to pay tuition only.

Per the Ohio Department of Education, “If a student’s family income is above 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines or if the student is in grades 9-12, the family may have to pay the tuition difference or participate in volunteer service activities instead of a cash payment. Parents and guardians are also responsible for registration fees, materials fees and other similar types of fees.”
