Second Application Window Opens July 1 for EdChoice Scholarship Program

The second application window for the EdChoice Scholarship Program will open on July 1 for eligible students who would like to apply for a private school scholarship for the 2018-19 school year. The application window will remain open through July 31, 2018.

Created in 2005, the EdChoice Scholarship Program provides scholarships to students who attend the state’s lowest-rated public schools to be used toward tuition at the participating private school of their choice. Click here for the list of underperforming public schools.

The scholarship is renewable through high school graduation. Scholarships are worth up to $4,650 for grades K-8 and $6,000 for high school and are to be used toward tuition at the participating private school of your choice.

Once you have determined your child is eligible and you would like to apply for a scholarship, families should take the following steps:

  1. Review the list of private schools – Review the list of private schools that accept the scholarship in your county by clicking here to access the dashboard, click "Select Program" in the top left-hand corner, and choose “Educational Choice Scholarship.” Then click “Open Search” and choose your county.

  2. Start shopping – Review the list of participating private schools. Use the evaluation tools, and choose the school on the list that is the best fit for your child and family.

  3. Apply to a private school – Apply to the participating private school(s) of your choice. Your child will go through the regular admission process at the school.

  4. Scholarship application – If your child is accepted, the private school you choose will apply for the scholarship on your behalf.

Keep in mind that you do NOT need to wait until July 1 to start the process. You can begin researching your private school options and apply to the school(s) of your choice now. Just be sure to let the private school know you are EdChoice eligible so they can work with you on submitting the application once your child is accepted.

Families who are interested in learning more can talk with our school choice counselors by calling our parent information center at 1-800-673-5876.

Parents who applied for an EdChoice Scholarship during the first application window and would like to check on the status of their child’s application should contact their private school or check the parent portal using their SAFE account, if they have one.
